Help Make the Run By the Sea Happen!
The Run by the Sea needs your help to succeed! There are many ways to participate, and most tasks don't require experience !
Here are summaries of volunteer tasks:
- On the course (arrive at 7:30AM or earlier to allow for instructions and travel to your course spot -- bikes can get you to your location faster, or you can run, or give yourself extra time if you plan to walk)
- Turnaround Point Guide -- encourage runners, and make sure they turn around! To get to the station, walk down to the road that parallels the tracks and follow it west until you see the turnaround sign on your left.
- Water Station 1 (water stop 1 & 2) -- provide water to thirsty 12K runners on their way out and on their way back. To get to the station, walk down to the road that parallels the tracks and follow it west to the pump station. Turn left to the ocean. Click here for a map of the route.
- Water Station 2 (water stop 3) -- provide water to 4K and 12K runners. To get to the station, follow the 4K course signs. A hundred feet or so after you turn left onto the cliff trail, you'll see the station. Click here for a map of the route.
- Beach Crossing Aid -- assist runners at the beach crossing. May require giving some people a hand for balance. Head to water station 2. Beach helpers are at top and bottom of both sides as shown here.
- 4K Lead Cyclist -- guides the lead 4K runners around their loop to insure they can focus on speed and not where to go. View 4K Cyclist Route. (Arrive by 8AM, done by 9AM)
- 12K Lead Cyclist -- guides the lead 12K runners to the beach crossing, and then waits for the first to cross back over to complete the final stretch to the finish. View 12K Cyclist Route. (Arrive by 8AM, done by 9:30AM)
- Photographer -- takes photos of 4K and 12K runners.
- Course Guide -- help guide runners where there are tricky turns or trail condtions, and also provide encouragement and inspiration!
- Start/Finish line
- Check-in Tables Helper -- help pre-registered people check in to get bib/shirt/goody bags (arrive at 7:30AM)
- Onsite Registration -- help register people who want to run, but did not pre-register (arrive at 7:30AM).
- Setup staff -- arrive early (7:00AM) to help do set up... you can also do another volunteer task after setup!
- Timing Assistants -- experience preferred, but we can train you (1 main timer, 2 select timers, 2 tag collectors, 2 chute monitors) (arrive at 7:45AM)
- Food Preparation -- cut fruit, baked goods, setup drinks, etc. (arrive at 7:15AM)
- Audio Meister -- set up the music system and start and monitor the music, help the warm up leader get her music going, and monitor sound during awards ceremony. (arrive at 7:15AM)
- Volunteer Coordinator -- This critical person directs volunteers as they arrive to their task. This task starts at 6:45AM and involves meeting each arriving volunteer, providing them with necessary instructions and direction. This volunteer should meet with the Race Coordinator prior to race day to get materials and discuss details.
- General Helper -- There's always random tasks that need someone to accomplish... that would be you! (arrive 7:00 to 7:30).
